Malnutrition-Related Hospitalizations Rising in Iqaluit
CBC Report
In a January 2026 CBC report, malnutrition-related hospitalizations at Qikiqtani General Hospital in Iqaluit more than doubled between 2022 and 2024. This increase seems to be related to a reduction in community food support programs and experts warn that actual numbers may be even higher. Read full article here.
CIHI Mandates Codes for Malnutrition Diagnoses
Effective April 1, 2026
CMTF has been working with Canadian Institute for Health Information to strengthen data around malnutrition diagnosis in hospitals. As of April 1, 2026, CIHI will be mandating the assignment of a code for a documented diagnosis of malnutrition. Read more details here.
