National Survey of Current Malnutrition Practices in Canadian Hospitals 2022
The Canadian Malnutrition Task Force (CMTF) and Dr. Heather Keller (University of Waterloo) conducted an online national survey in 2022 to gain an understanding of current practices around malnutrition in Canadian hospitals.
The survey was voluntary, took appx 10 minutes to complete and asked information about acute care hospitals across Canada, current nutrition practices to prevent, detect and treat malnutrition in each hospital and barriers and successes with making nutrition care improvements. Participants did not have to be currently involved in making improvements in their malnutrition care. Since only one single survey was required per hospital, it was suggested that the team of dietitians in the hospital meet together to complete this survey. This study was reviewed and received ethics clearance through a University of Waterloo Research Ethics Board (ORE#43722).
By conducting this survey on an annual or bi-annual basis, CMTF will be able to track hospital progress and benchmark the current state of practices around the prevention, detection, and treatment of malnutrition across Canadian hospitals.
The results from this survey illuminated gaps between current nutrition practices and best practices around malnutrition, see publication below.
