In primary care, 1 dollar spent on nutrition interventions can save up to 99 dollars by reducing medication use, hospitalizations and freeing up physician time.
Hamilton Health Sciences Dietitians and Assistants raise awareness for Canadian Malnutrition Awareness Week 2021!
The registered dietitians and dietetic assistants at Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) are excited to share our success story from this year’s Malnutrition Awareness Week! Our main goal was to raise awareness about malnutrition in our hospitals with staff, patients and families.
Our Activities:
-Shared our success story with getting nutrition screening (CNST) into our EMR by participating as a speaker for the Malnutrition Champions as Agents of Change webinar on Oct 5 2021 which was attended by almost 450 people.
-Traveling caravans of registered dietitians and dietetic assistants went from ward to ward with info sessions about the issue of malnutrition, the consequences of malnutrition and what the healthcare team can do to detect, prevent and treat malnourished patients.
-Promotional CMTF posters placed on all wards and in common areas.
-We wore “Championing Malnutrition Care” t-shirts to promote our message.
-Summary newsletters went to ward educators to distribute to staff who may have missed the information sessions
