In primary care, 1 dollar spent on nutrition interventions can save up to 99 dollars by reducing medication use, hospitalizations and freeing up physician time.
Canadian Malnutrition Week at Providence Health Care
This year at Providence Health Care (PHC) in Vancouver, B.C. we had our 2nd annual Canadian Malnutrition Week campaign.
Our events included an interdisciplinary panel presentation during the Health and Education Research Rounds, "Malnutrition Jeopardy" played on iPads with staff throughout the hospital, articles in the PHC news and other newsletters, and posters throughout the hospital including on some of the hospital televisions in common areas as well as on patient meal trays. Our interdisciplinary panel presentation had a total of 102 people (77 in person + 25 online via webinar) in attendance!
Our 2nd annual campaign was a great success and staff LOVED the mini fork buttons that we gave away while wearing our "May the Forks Be With You" Canadian Malnutrition Week T-shirts. We hope that the enthusiasm, conversation and motivation to tackle malnutrition will continue throughout the year!
