Description:
Aging is associated with sarcopenia and cognitive impairment, leading to disability. Diet is a modifiable risk factor that may be targeted in strategies to prevent these conditions. This dissertation aimed to identify sarcopenia diagnostic criteria from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging, provide understanding of determinants of sarcopenia and cognition, and lay out groundwork for future dietary interventions aimed to delay the loss of autonomy in older adults, including the most vulnerable.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:
	- Understand the controversial definition and diagnosis of sarcopenia
- Provide novel evidence on the associations between sarcopenia, cognitive function and diet
- Discuss potential strategies to identify and mitigate age-related muscle and cognitive loss
Speaker: Anne-Julie Tessier, RD, PhD - Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health
Moderator: Stéphanie Chevalier, PhD, RD  - McGill University

About the Speaker:
Dr. Anne-Julie Tessier is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Nutrition at Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Tessier is a registered dietitian and completed a PhD in Human Nutrition at McGill University under the supervision of Dr. Stéphanie Chevalier. She is the cofounder and CEO of Keenoa, an intelligent food diary tailored for dietitians and researchers. Her research interests are toward epidemiology, more specifically the interplay between nutrition, metabolomics, cognition and sarcopenia in aging. She is also developing and studying the use of novel mobile applications for dietary assessment.
