This webinar will present the results from the Family Food Skills Study, which examined how aspects of parental food literacy are associated with level of household food waste and dietary intake of parents and children. Implications of these findings for family-level interventions will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

Following this webinar, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify current estimates of food literacy and household food waste among Canadians
  2. Describe how parental food literacy is associated with level of household food waste and dietary intake among both parents and children
  3. Discuss next steps regarding family-level interventions designed to improve dietary intake and reduce household food waste

About the Speaker:

Jess Haines, PhD, MHSc, RD is an Associate Professor of Applied Nutrition at the University of Guelph. Dr. Haines’s research aims to bridge epidemiologic research on the determinants of health behaviours with the design, implementation, and evaluation of family-based interventions to support children’s healthy eating and growth.
