Breastfeeding is the gold standard for infant feeding. Many of the benefits of breastfeeding can be attributed to the strains of Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus found in human breast milk. Bifidobacteria lactis supplemented in formula provides the infant with immune system support, including increasing specific IgA levels to pathogens. Lactobacillus reuteri has been shown to reduce crying in infants with colic, reduce spit-ups, improve gastrointestinal motility and provide more regular bowel movements in infants with constipation. These probiotics may provide improved digestive health in infants born via C-section and those who are not breastfed.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to:

1. Understand that the many benefits of breastfeeding are due the bacteria found in breastmilk.

2. Learn how to promote a balanced microbiome in infancy.

3. Apply knowledge about the clinically proved benefits of B. lactis and L. reuteri probiotics to infants to their practice.
